Matthew 28: 18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
In an article on the UMC web page there is a statement that is stunning. In our colleges and university's, where people of all world faiths can be found, chaplains are discouraging students from sharing their Christian faith. They proudly declare they don't want to convert other faiths to Christ.
Here is the quote.
"One thing these chaplains don’t do is recommend proselytizing among the students. " Part of my view of what chaplaincy is, is to encourage every student in his or her own tradition," Wallace says. "In other words, I don’t want to convert Jews to Christianity. "
I wonder what would have happened to Christianity if the first-century Christians had followed this mode of ministry. Peter would have never preached his sermon on the day of Pentecost, because he was preaching to devout Jews. Paul would have never declared His faith to the religious people on Mars Hill in Greece, because "all roads lead to the same place." The Christians who followed the Great Commission and preached the faith in Jerusalem, Judea, and the uttermost parts of the earth would have just stayed home. There would be no Christians in the world today. If we follow the good chaplain's advice, there will be none tomorrow.
